Terms of Service

Plain summary

PoolAssist gives AI chemistry advice to help residential pool owners. The advice is informational, not professional. Use common sense, follow chemical labels, and call a licensed pool pro for anything beyond DIY scope.

The service

PoolAssist (“we,” “us,” the “Service”) is a web application that uses Anthropic Claude (an AI model) to provide chemistry guidance for residential pool owners. The Service is currently in alpha and provided free of charge.

No professional advice — important

PoolAssist is NOT a substitute for licensed pool inspection, repair, or chemistry certification.

The advice provided is:

  • Informational only — not engineering, chemical, electrical, or legal advice.
  • Generated by AI — may contain errors, omissions, or hallucinations.
  • Generic to your inputs — does not know about your local water source, equipment age, code requirements, or site-specific risks.

Always: read chemical labels and SDS sheets before use, never mix chemicals (acid + chlorine = chlorine gas), follow your pool equipment manufacturer’s instructions, and call a licensed pool service / electrician / gas tech for any safety, structural, or equipment-failure issue.

Disclaimer of warranties

The Service is provided “AS IS” and “AS AVAILABLE” without warranty of any kind.

We make no representations or warranties: that the AI advice will be accurate, complete, current, or appropriate for your specific pool; that the Service will be uninterrupted or error-free; that defects will be corrected; or that the Service will meet your needs. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for purpose, and non-infringement.

Limitation of liability

You use the Service at your own risk.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for: property damage (pool, equipment, finishes), personal injury, chemical burns, illness, lost time, lost expenses, or any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the Service or reliance on its advice. Our total cumulative liability shall not exceed US $100 or the amount you paid us in the 12 months prior to the claim, whichever is greater.

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties or liability; in those cases the above exclusions apply to the maximum extent permitted by law.

Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Use the Service for commercial pool/spa management without our written consent.
  • Reverse-engineer, scrape, or auto-query the API beyond the published rate limit.
  • Submit content that is illegal, harmful, or violates third-party rights.
  • Misrepresent yourself as a licensed pool professional based on AI advice.

We may suspend or terminate access for violations.

Third-party content

When the AI identifies an issue beyond DIY scope, we may recommend local pool professionals via our sister directory HiredLocalPros. We do not endorse specific pros, do not warrant their work, and do not act as their agent. Any contract for services is between you and the pro directly.

Changes

We may update these Terms. The “Last updated” date at the top reflects the current version. Continued use after changes means you accept them.

Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of California, USA, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Any dispute will be resolved in the state or federal courts of Los Angeles County, California.
