That experience is why PoolAssist’s escalation triggers are tighter than most chat-LLM defaults — we’ve seen the patterns where DIY ends in a $2,000 heat-exchanger replacement.

When PoolAssist tells you a problem exceeds DIY scope (suspected algae beyond chlorine treatment, equipment failure, structural cracks), we route you to a vetted local pro on HiredLocalPros. The pro pays HLP a referral fee for qualified leads.

That’s the entire business model. We don’t run ads. We don’t sell user data. We don’t upsell chemicals. The AI’s incentive is to give you the right answer — including “you can fix this yourself, here’s how” — because we only make money when the AI correctly recognizes the problems that genuinely need a pro.

• Math verified. Every dose is re-computed against an 18-formula verified table sourced from Trouble Free Pool / Taylor / Pentair / Hayward specs. If Claude’s number is off, we flag or correct it before you see it.
• Pattern-aware. We see your last 30 days. If FC has crashed below 1 ppm three times in two weeks, we’ll tell you to test CYA before adding more chlorine — because that’s the actual root cause.
• Photo quality pre-check. Blurry / dark / angled photos get bounced before AI vision tokens are spent — saves you a useless answer and us a wasted API call.
• Honest escalation. Built on a directory business — we have skin in the game on getting the pro-vs-DIY call right.
